Montecastrilli in fair
Montecastrilli is an ancient strengthened suburb, narrow and contained on the summit of a
small hill, inserted in an enviable environmental and natural context. The
houses are surrounded from an ancient entourage of boundaries and protected
from a system of towers of clear medieval style, dated around the X century,
period in which is placed the foundation of the city. According to some
studious the place name postpones to the epoch of the descent of Hannibal in Italy, who would have decided to stop really in these earth, dividing
its army in numerous castrilli, consequential term from the Latin castrillorum,
'' camp ''.
Among the architectural beauties to visit,
it deserves to be mentioned the Parish Church of San Nicolò, a valuable
temple composed from six chapels votive, of which three in Baroque style.
Between paintings and other furniture components they are noticed a precious Wooden
Crucifix of the XVI century and a painting of Bartolomeo Poliziano,
performed in 1629.
But the commune of Montecastrilli is today
known above all for a fair demonstration, that has been developing for half
century and trough the years gained a place of relief among the appointments of
the sector. It's the Agricollina, Exhibition of the
Agricultural Cars of Hill and the Courtyard Animals,
born in 1956 as Party of the Tractor, able to call thousand of visitors
and numerous exhibitors.
