Castel Ritaldi,
an ancient suburb of Roman origin, rises at the feet of the
Colli Martani on the summit of a hill surrounded by olive-tree, just between
Spoleto and
Montefalco. The olive-tree, typical cultivation of the zone, is the
element characterising this area where is produced a good quality
extra-virgin-oil, inserted in the DOP of the Colli Martani.
The landscape is typically Umbrian,
absorbed in the green of the strong medieval physiognomy. There are lots of
buildings of merit, among which we indicate the
Pieve di San Gregorio Magno,
a sacred building risen around the year 1000, slightly out of the inhabited
centre. It possesses a beautiful façade, simple and elegant, decorated with
symbolic elements that represent the evangelists.
It goes back to a period between the XIV
and XV century the
Santa Maria Church, which guards to its inside
precious frescos.
One note apart certainly is deserved to
the splendid
Santuario Madonna della Bruna, magnificent example of
Renaissance architecture of Bramante style.
A vacation in the territory of Castel Ritaldi
cannot leave apart the tasting of its typical product for excellence, the
extra-virgin-oil, characterised by low acidity and the excellent qualities. The
olives dominate the panorama, populate the sides of the hills and they colour
of all the tonalities. In
Castel Ritaldi is possible to taste the
fragrant taste of the best Umbrian oil, in a calm and serene environment and in
the most total harmony with the nature. The various demonstrations devoted to
the oil involve the visitors and the tourists giving them the possibility to
visit the places of production of an oil among the more appreciated of the
zone.
