Not too far from Todi, there's Collevalenza, a small medieval suburb where
the Santuario dell'Amore Misericordioso di Madre Speranza rises. It's a grandiose spiritual and religious centre built thanks to the wish
of Madre Speranza Alhama di Gesù, transferred to Collevalenza with some
of her'' Handmaids of the Merciful love '', a congregation that she
created in Madrid in 1930. The Sanctuary is work of the architect Giulio
Lafuente and is certainly one of the maximum expressions of the
contemporary sacred architecture. Great importance is reserved to the element
'' water '', when Madre Speranza in 1981 turned to the pope Giovanni Paul II saying that '' The world is thirsty, also without knowing it, of the divine
mercy and in this world you have called to hand this prodigious and healing
water of the soul and the body ''.
