Already known in the XVII century the
ancient Roman site of
Carsulae was brought to new shine only in the
second halves the XX century. Along the oath of
via Flaminia, were
discovered important documents that testify the remote activity of this great
centre risen between
Terni and
San Gemini. Overall the
construction of the area goes back to the I-III century, and it counts in its
inside numerous buildings worthy of note as the palaleo-Christian church of San
Damiano, adorned by what remains of some ancient decorations, followed by the
Basilica
Grande. Proceeding there's the
Amphitheatre and the
Theatre,
the first dated to the Flavian age, while the second, has probably been built
in the Augustan period like the
arc of San Damiano, settled in the
northern entry of the city.
