The Medieval kitchen garden of Perugia

The medieval vocation of Perugia doesn't stop only to urban structure and the many monuments and ancient buildings. There is a place through which the taste of the Middle Ages can be tasted in full and completely. It's the Medieval kitchen garden, a spellbound garden attached to the ancient Abbazia Benedettina di San Pietro, centre of the University of Agriculture. Inside the monastery it fully relives the order and the spirit with which the monks cultivated plants, flowers and fruits, giving to the things an order that corresponded somehow to a superior order. The result is a fascinating mystical and symbolic itinerary load of ancient suggestions.

It's not lacking any of the elements that belonged to the medieval imaginary. The water flows and gushes out plentiful and abundant, symbol of Christ as source of life. As don't miss the fruit trees, the vegetables, prepared in way to introduce the garden as an ideal Eden, the Terrestrial Heaven.

The garden is entirely practicable from the visitors, which will be wound by the perfumes and by the colours, from the order of the spaces and from a set-up that postpones to a precise conception of the spirit.

They are present over two hundred belonging arboreal plants to different kind. Every single plant is labelled and described with names drawn by the ancient medieval texts.

They complete the garden: the flowerbeds, composed second the planetary order and the structures of the monastery and the roads of the epoch, integrated in a complex that delivers to whom enters, the keys for a place where the time has never gone over.
