The Churchs of Passignano sul Trasimeno
The San Cristoforo Church is devoted to the patron that is celebrated on July 25, attached to the cemetery
of the centuries X-XI, was built in bigger dimensions than the actual ones
above the rests of an ancient pagan temple. It's very interesting the cycle of
frescos exposed in the central aisle, probably of Policleto da Cola (1418), containing a subject attributed to Benedetto Bonfigli (1446).
The Santuario Madonna dell'Uliveto is a temple raised
among 1582 and 1586 which name comes from an votive image believed as
miraculous extracted from a wall and situated originally above an olive-tree.
In the inside it's possible to see prestigious sculptures, among which a
marmoreal font of 1602, a sculpture of Ascanio da Cortona, the "Madonna
with Child" and some paintings.
San Donato is a church situated in the eastern country of Passignano. It has signs
of clear Byzantine imprint, in a panoramic position on the lake Trasimeno.
Placed in Castel Rigone, the Santuario of S. Maria dei Miracoli is one of the better results of the
Umbrian Renaissance. Of Bramante inspiration, was built around the end
of the '400s, in virtue of the devotion to a painting of the Madonna present on
a wall, to which are attributed miraculous proprieties. During the centuries it
has more and more enriched of notable works of art, among which a splendid
"Epiphany" of Domenico Alfani, the "Madonna of
the Rosary" of Bernardo Rosselli, one "Assumption"
of the shop of the Caporali and a wooden cross dated 1531.
