Itinerari d'arte di Panicale
The Church of San Michele Arcangelo is the most ancient of the territory, its construction is of the X-XI century,
but was rebuilt in 1618 on wish of Pope Paolo V and restored in 1696. To
its inside there's an "Annunciation" attributed to Masolino
da Panicale and one "Nativity" of Giovan Battista
Caporali of 1519, student of the Perugino and the Pinturicchio.
The Theater Cesare Caporali, wanted
by the most eminent families of Panicale of the '700, the ancient "Theater
of the Sun" was restructured in 1858. The curtain is a work of Mariano
Piervittori da Tolentino, while the inside is entirely in wood and
completely decorated with plasters and painted medallions.
The Santuario
of Mongiovino is the Santuario of
the Madonna of Mongiovino, its building began in 1513 by Bramante and was continued by Rocco di Tommaso da Vicenza. Completely
restored in 2000, inside it possesses precious decorations, sculptures and
paintings, among which are the frescos of Niccolò
Circignani known as the Pomarancio, Arrigo Fiammingo and Giovanni Battista Lombardelli. It has a splendid stone portal,
superbly carved by Rocco di Tommaso,
Giuliano da Verona, Bernardino da Siena and Lorenzo da Carrara.
