Historical-archaeologic itineraries in the territory of Orvieto
The zone of the district of
Orvieto has been particularly interested from the Etruscan
installations, of which numerous testimonies and sites still remain to
illustrate the ancient shine and the level of civilization reached.
The place in
which today the city of Orvieto rises, was lived since the IX-VIII century B.C.
from the Etruscan population, acquiring during the centuries a remarkable
politic and economic power. Of this period remain the
Tempio del Belvedere,
the
Necropolis of the Crucifix of Tufo, while near the city of
Porano have been discovered two precious graves, belonging to the Etruscan period, the
Golini and the Hescana Graves.
