This exceptional finding was recovered in
1444, very probably in the Roman Theatre of Gubbio. Today is guarded in
the Civic Museum. These are seven bronze tables on which are engraved,
on a surface of twelve façades, information on the divinities, cults, rites,
prayers and demonstrations, but also on the topography of the territory. They
are written in ancient Umbrian dialect with Etruscan characters, dated around
the III-II century B.C., and those in Latin datable around the I century B.C.
The recovery of the seven tables is of the
maximum importance, if it is considered the fact that in the whole West doesn't
exist other similar testimony.
