The town Gualdo Tadino
The Rocca Flea is an ancient
castle, a military fortitude that already testifies its presence from the end
of the X century. It became of ownership of Federico Barbarossa in the
XII century and was definitely arranged by Federico II of Svevia in the
XIII century, who gave it the form that currently has, endowing it of
surrounded building and 17 towers. Today is centre of the Civic Museum and
it entertains every year the International Ceramics Exhibition. Inside
the Civic Museum is possible to enjoy masterpieces of the pictorial umbian art,
among which the Polittico of Niccolò di Liberatore realised in
1471.
The main city church is Cattedrale of
San Benedetto, realised in 1256 in Romanesque style of Lombard school. The
façade introduces three portals elegantly worked, the central one is surmounted
by a rose window that perfectly maintains the native harmony.
Realised in the centuries XIII-XIV, the St.
Francis Church is a notable example of building in pure Gothic
style, in the main town square.
