January-April: Feast of the Palazzo - Every year since the first edition in
2003, some of the hundreds of historical residences are picked out at
Foligno and its environs, where take place remarkable evenings dedicated to one of the
arts, like music, literature or painting. The event has the aim to revalue the
historical Palazzos of the territory, filling them with life and carrying them back to their former glamour,
and to make them the centres of enjoyable cultural activities.
April: Dantesque Celebration - The occurrence celebrates the event that
made the typographer Johann Numeister from Mainz, Emiliano Orfini from Foligno
and Evangelista Angelini from Trevi on The 11
th April 1472 carry out
the
first stamped edition of the
Divine Comedy. The
celebrations include conferences, a series of readings of Dante aiming at the
promotion of the reading of and the enthusiasm for the book, which is
considered an irreplaceable support.
April: La Scrittura & l'Immagine, Exhibition Market of the Ancient Book - The event is promoted by the
UNESCO and houses the display of the Umbrian and national editors in a fair which is
dedicated to antique books. During the exhibition stalls are set out,
conferences are held and the best works in the field of book trade regarding
antique books.
May: Accademia della Misticanza - Event, which fuses gastronomy, arts and
the Middle Ages to an extraordinary result, that serves as a forerunner of the
tournament
Giostra della Quintana and is organized by three
neighbourhoods in their quarters. It is a long path where one can taste ancient
dishes, visit the rooms of the
Oratorio della Nunziatella where the fresco painted by
Perugino is kept, and all that is adorned
with medieval costumes and music.
July: Canti & Discanti - The event is entirely dedicated to the
memory of
Vincenzo Fojetta and his work, a citizen of
Foligno who was born in 1940 and became the precursor on the field of research of the
traditional Umbrian music. The musianti &ac spectacle has the aim to make famous the
interpreters and instruments of this genuine local folklore music with shows in
the most typical places of the town.
July: Humorfest - The
International Show of Humour was resumed by
Foligno in the 80ies and has reached a very high quality
level, it houses comical, humorous and satiric artists who come from all parts
of
Italy and from all over the world and who measure themselves with the
subject given by the event.
August: Exhibition Market and Festival of the Red Potato of Colfiorito - Nearing the 30
th edition the
event obtains every year a widespread success among the public and the
visitors. It takes place in the village
Colfiorito, in the
mountains between Umbria and the Marches, and besides to singing events, prize
contests and the display of the
Red Mountain Potato one can taste local
products.
September: Baroque Signs Festival - It is a wide-ranging event entirely
dedicated to the Baroque taste and its expressive forms, which in the course of
the following centuries influenced the common taste and the customs. In the
course of the event processions in period costumes, theatre, singing and film
performances follow each other in different places at
Foligno and its
surroundings with the participation of famous national and international
artists.
December: Foligno and Beata Angela - In the birthplace of the famous mystic
from Foligno meetings, conferences, publications and competitions are organized
with the aim to promote the fame of the figure of
Beata Angela.
December: Vinumbro - Presentation and tasting of the best wines
of the Umbrian wineries.
