Oenological and gastronomic itineraries in the territory of Foligno
The
Sagrantino of Montefalco is a stately wine, prince of the table and the taste. Its
cultivation has ancient roots and its ownerships are the result of the mixture
among the wise man job and particular weather conditions of the territory. Its
zone of production extends from the whole commune of
Montefalco and part
of the communes of
Bevagna,
Castel Ritaldi,
Giano
dell’Umbria and
Gualdo Cattaneo. It's a wine of
Denomination
of Checked and Guaranteed Origin, but this is not enough to realize its
peculiarities and the success that received in the last years. It’s a wine of
great personality, produced in two typologies,
dry and “
passito''
(raisin wine). The
Sagrantino Passito is a product for true
connoisseurs, an unique nectar that just with its presence is able to embellish
any evening. The
Road of the Sagrantino was
born to exalt the cultivation of this
vine, history and culture, it’s an itinerary that connect all the typical
places of its production.
Another product
of excellence is the
extra-virgin-oil, whose cultivation is diffused and
celebrated as much as the grapevine’s. One of the best regional reality is the
city of
Trevi, which has translated its own experience in this sector in
the
Museum of Olive-tree Civilization, an expositive space where is
possible to admire and to deepen every aspect related to the olive culture and
to the production of oil.
One last aspect
that deserves attention, is apparently a smaller product that is cultivated in
Foligno,
the ''
Cave’s bean '', a cultivated variety near Foligno that in the
last years earned the attention of the most exigent consumers.
