Historical-artistic itineraries in the territory of Foligno
In the district of
Foligno there’s an elevated concentration of territories to visit, none of
them can be discarded. Just think about the nine Umbrian suburbs belonging to
the club of the ''
Most beautiful Suburbs of Italy'', three of them are
near Foligno:
Bevagna,
Montefalco and
Trevi. These are
three places that show an extraordinary maintenance of their medieval past,
united to an excellent level of offered services to make an unforgettable
vacation in every period of the year.
Each of the
other cities have features of great merit. Besides of them there is
Spello,
a place from the unmistakable charm, suggestive medieval landscape, symbolized
by the imposing
Torre di Properzio,beside the
Porta Venere, the main town entry street.
Foligno has one
of the most suggestive historical centre and the most beautiful squares in
Italy, surrounded by buildings as the
Cattedrale of San Feliciano, the
City-hall,
PalazzoGiusto Orfini and
PalazzoTrinci.
The ancient charm of the city is exalted in during period of the
Torneo
della Quintana (Tournament of the Quintana), which is a demonstration that
recalls an ancient past arousing every year new passions.
There is then
Gualdo
Cattaneo, with an interesting itinerary composed by many castles and from
churches in Romanesque style.
Even from
artistic point of view there are lots of works of art that can be admired, as
the two masterpieces of
Niccolò di Liberatore, known as
the Pupil,
preserved in the
Cattedrale of Foligno, the frescos of
Benozzo
Bozzoli of
Montefalco or the works of the
Perugino in the
CappellaBella of Spello.
At Trevi there
is then a reality fully to discover, the
Flash Art Museum for instance, is an expositive
centre of very vivacious contemporary art collecting the artistic experiences
of over seventy international artists.
