Corciano's Buildings
Corciano possesses the typical medieval castle urban structure. The historical centre is
surrounded from high and mighty boundaries, inside which, few or nothing has
been modified. Every architectural element has wisely been preserved or
restored in the full respect of its native spirit. The roads, the alleys and
the arcs composing suggestive plots have a
charm that doesn't escape even the most distracted tourist.
In the centre of the country, just on the
main street, rises the Town-hall, built during the XVI century and
destined to be inhabited by the dukes of della Corgna during their
standstills to the castle. Of notable interest inside the Palazzo, it's the
splendid ceiling of the Sala Consiliare, work of the Florentine artist Salvio
Savini.
A little bit out of the urban entourage
there's the Castello Pieve del Vescovo, a sumptuous quadrangular building
endowed with towers that close every side of it. It was built widening the
small Pieve di San Giovanni Intermontes, already present in the
XI century. In Renaissance epoch it was restored by the famous architect Gian
Galeazzo Alessi.
Another splendid complex can be admired
at the feet of the hill of Corciano, Palazzo Baldeschi, an ancient
medieval firm surrounded from green valleys and fertile fields.
