Corciano's Churches
The
St. Francis Museum Church is tied to the
Franciscan memory. Its construction, according to tradition, dates from 1223,
when it was built to celebrate the passage of the saint of
Assisi returning
from
Isola Maggiore on
Lake Trasimeno. More probably the
church was built at the end of the XIII century.
The
Parish Church of Santa Maria
Assunta goes up to the XIII century, even if its structure has been
modified and renewed during the time. To its inside is possible to
visdit two masterpieces among the
maximum exponents that the history of art remembers. The first one is the
painting of the "
Assumption of the Virgin", work of the 1513
of the
Perugino, where the Madonna is drawn in the gesture to protect
the community of
Corciano from the adversities.
The second one is the gonfalone of
Benedict
Bonfigli, dated 1472, where the artist has represented with great
effectiveness and precision the castle of Corciano.
