The town Castel Viscardo
As the whole area of
Orvieto, near
Castel
Viscardo too, more precisely
in the village
Caldane, has been discovered some rests of the Etruscan
period aged VI century B.C. It's about a complex of seven graves, inside which
have been discovered finds and fragments of great importance, these are still
today object of studies and searches from the
Umbrian Archaeological
Superintendency.
Particularly interesting is the
Church
of Santissima Annunziata, the parish of Castel Viscardo, built in 1682. The
Baroque façade is made by an alternation of stones and brickwork. In the inside it is preserved a
Crucifix in ivory,
gift of the
Sun King to an apostolic messenger member of the
Spada family.
In Castel Viscardo it's very developed
the activity of the furnaces, inheritance that comes from the Middle Ages up to
today, continuing in the production of appreciated bricks, tiles and square
tiles.
