Last Minute Giotto's histories in the Basilica of Assisi

The splendid intersection of life that happened in Assisi, in the Basilica Superiore, was when Giotto in 1290 had to represent the life of St. Francis. When occur such miracles, spiritual and artistic, the human world makes an enormous leap in such a little time. The same enormous leap that the painting did was when were evident the artistic progress of that young boy coming from the shop of Cimabue. And the prodigy ends just in the Basilica Superiore del Santo, where is visible the acceleration that Giotto engraves to his own style, firstly uncertain and experimental in the two '' Life of Isacco '' of the second span, then fully mature and original in the followings '' Life of St. Francis along the walls. Here Giotto controls in unmistakable way the spatial organization of the elements and the plain plasticity of the figure. Before Giotto, nobody had ever painted in that way, giving to his contemporaries so much realism to leave them dumbfounded, surprised and amazed. The frescos of the Superiore Basilica about the ''Life of St. Francis'', are the first magnificent text of the modern Italian painting. A more important thing is that they allow us to observe at first sight the passage from the ancient to the modern way of painting.
