Re-evocation of the Festa della Frasca
The Festa della Frasca is an ancient Umbrian tradition of celebrating the successful end, or bonfinita, of the olive gathering with singing and dancing. The word frasca in fact refers to branch – in this case the olive branch that was placed in the courtyard of the farm where the olive gathering was going on. After the 1950s the tradition was abandoned, to be revived in 1996 in Giano with a procession of carts, pickers and olive branches.
The procession will begin at 2.30pm with a performance by a group of folk musicians and will be followed by a free tasting of bruschetta, the year’s new olive oil and other local specialities.
The following exhibitions will also be open during the event:
La cultura degli antichi mestieri– oggetti della memoria (organised by Gabriele Scatolini)
Via Roma - Giano dell’Umbria;
Passioni d’Umbria exhibition of contemporary art (in collaboration with the Flash Art Museum of Trevi) Municipio di Giano dell’Umbria.
Opening hours: Saturday afternoon 3-7pm; Sunday 10am to 12.30pm and 3pm to 7pm.
