Historical itineraries in the territory of Cittā di Castello
The epoch of greater shine of
Cittā di Castello corresponds to the dominion of the
Vitelli,
a family who from the beginning of second halves of the XV century gave the
Renaissance taste to the urban city architecture. Architects, painters and
literates habitually attended Cittā di Castello,
recreating an analogous spirit that animated every European court. Consequently

Capitani di Ventura,
and therefore of
Braccio Fortebraccio da
Montone, famous commander whose deeds still resound in the
whole territory. The place was the fortified village
Montone, a symbol of the Middle Ages, and
despite its urban planning conformation, it’s a centre of international
demonstrations able to recall public from every corner of the world. Its
indisputable beauty made it recently being included in the club of the "
most beautiful suburbs of Italy",
an essential destination of each itinerary. Every town of this territory
reserves great relief surprises and beauties that attract every year numerous
visitors. The
CastelloBufalini of San Giustino deserves
a particular mention, it’s an example of fortified fort that during times
suffered modifications and embellishments that made it a delicate Renaissance
abode. Also
Rocca di Umbertide, from the imposing massive
structure and from the many towers, is as well an excellent city symbol.
Recently restored, it possesses again the ancient shine and is centre of
artistic collections and public shows.
There are then the castles and the fortresses of
Lisciano Niccone, a town behind "
Corridoio Bizantino ", which required a continuous
overseeing and a suitable garrison, so for this reason and to protect it, rose
consequently suburbs and castles on every hill. In these places the Umbrian
valleys disclose all their shine and their load of history and culture, showing
in this panorama their best aspect.
